# Editing Users and Residents
This guide explains how to **edit and update** an existing user's profile, including personal details, vehicles, storage, pets, notification settings, administration options, group membership, and building/unit assignments.

## Prerequisites
- You must be part of a [[User Groups Overview|User Group]] that has access to manage Users and Residents

## Opening a User Profile
1. Open the **Users and Residents** page.
2. (Optional) Use the **Building filter** or **Search** field (by name or unit number) to find the user.
3. Click the **user's name** to open their **User Profile**.

## What You Can Edit
### Personal Information and Belongings
From the User Profile you can add or update:
- **Vehicles**
- **Storage lockers**
- **Pets**
- **Bicycles** (including bicycle storage information)
### User Settings
Under **User Settings**, review and manage all notifications the user is subscribed to.
### Administration
Under **Administration**, you can:
- View **security information**.
- View any **associated fees**.
- Control whether the user can **post a message for classifieds** in the Message Forum. To remove a user's ability to post classifieds, toggle this option off here.
- Enable or disable the user's account access.
### User Groups
In the **Groups** box on the User Profile:
- Change the user's existing group(s).
- Add the user to additional **User Groups** (for example, **Administrator**, **Owner**, **Tenant**).
### Buildings and Units
In the building/unit section of the User Profile:
- Update the **building** the user is registered under.
- Update the **unit** the user is registered under.
- Add **multiple units** and/or **multiple buildings** to the same user.
- Specify general amounts associated with the assignments.

## Saving Changes
1. After making any changes on the User Profile, click the **Save** button.
2. The user's account is updated immediately.
3. If you added the user to an additional building or units, the new assignments and updated access will appear on the profile.

## Common Editing Tasks
- **Add a second unit to an owner** — Open the User Profile → building/unit section → add another unit → **Save**.
- **Move a tenant to a new building** — Open the User Profile → update building and unit → **Save**.
- **Promote a resident to administrator** — Open the User Profile → **Groups** → add the **Administrator** group → **Save**.
- **Block classifieds posting** — Open the User Profile → **Administration** → turn off classifieds posting → **Save**.
- **Update notification subscriptions** — Open the User Profile → **User Settings** → adjust subscriptions → **Save**.
