This guide explains how to **add comments**, **attach files**, **notify the task owner**, and **log time** spent on a task. Logging time helps you track how long different categories of work take so you can plan more accurately in the future. For a feature overview, see [[Tasks Overview]] --- ## Prerequisites - Permission to view and update tasks. - The task you want to comment on already exists on the [Tasks page](Tasks%20Overview.md). To create one, see [Creating Tasks](Creating%20Tasks.md). --- ## Opening a Task 1. Open the **Tasks** page. 2. Click the **subject** of the task to open it. The task page shows all task information, existing comments, attachments, the creator and unit, the date created, the due date, the associated project (if any), the task status, and the total time spent so far. --- ## Adding a Comment 1. On the task page, type your comment in the comment field. 2. (Optional) **Attach files**: - Click the **Choose a File** button to select files, **or** - **Drag and drop** files into the files box. 3. Click **Upload** to attach the selected files. 4. Choose whether to **send the comment to the owner of the task**: - Click **Yes** to notify the owner with the comment. 5. **Log time** for this comment: - Specify the amount of time you spent on this update, **or** - Check the **Don't log time** check box if you do not want to log time for this comment. 6. Save the task. The new comment is added, the comment count for the task increases, attachments become accessible (click the arrow next to a document to view it), and any logged time is added to the task's running total. --- ## Why Log Time Logging time on each comment lets the system calculate how long it takes to complete specific tasks and task categories. This data improves planning and budgeting for similar work in the future, and is included in [Task Reports](Generating%20Task%20Reports.md). --- ## Tips - **Log time consistently.** Even small updates add up — logging a few minutes per comment gives a true picture of effort. - **Use the "send to owner" option for important updates.** Routine internal notes can be saved without notifying the owner. - **Attach supporting documents.** RFPs, quotes, photos, and signed forms all belong on the task so the full history is preserved. --- ## Related Guides - [Tasks Overview](Tasks%20Overview.md) - [Creating Tasks](Creating%20Tasks.md) - [Editing Tasks](./Editing%20Tasks.md) - [Completing Tasks](Completing%20Tasks.md) - [Generating Task Reports](Generating%20Task%20Reports.md)
